Previously known as UnumProvident, Unum Group is a Chattanooga, Tennessee-based insurance company. In 1999, Unum Corporation merged with The Provident Companies to form the Unum Group, which includes four distinct business units: Unum US, Unum UK, Unum Poland, and Colonial Life. Underwriting insurers include Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company and Paul Revere Life Insurance Company.
The company is the top disability insurer both in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, as well as offering accident and critical illness insurance. In December 2016, Unum had a full-time workforce of 9,400 employees and revenue of $11.047 billion. As CEO of Unum, Richard McKenney took over the leadership role on April 1, 2015.
