The Marden family owns Marden's to the fullest extent possible. From 1996 to 2010, Governor LePage was as General Manager of Marden's for the Marden family. Maine-based Retail Company Marden's Surplus and Salvage is a family-owned and operated business. Founded in 1964, it now has 14 United States and Canada locations. In 1964, Harold "Mickey" Marden, a postal from Fairfield, Maine, began holding auctions of artifacts he'd acquired while competing in the local auction circuit. This was the beginning of Marden's. Customers would go through rows of goods and offer Marden using a "from-the-hip pricing" methodology. "Products on the floor didn't have prices for several years after that. Before that, all pricing was done on the fly.
