Gordmans was a chain of off-price department stores in the Midwestern United States that started in Omaha, Nebraska. Since March 2017, Stage Stores has been the sole owner of the chain. Earlier this year, Stage Stores began converting other retail chains into Gordmans locations to have 700 Gordmans locations in 42 states by the end of 2020. Gordmans will hold a business closure sale in less than a year. Towards the end of 2019, Stage unveiled a long-term strategy for converting department stores into Gordmans off-price stores. However, things did not turn out the way Stage Stores Inc. had hoped, and the company was forced to file for bankruptcy in May of the following year.
