Our GE stove is 2

Our GE stove is 2.5 years old, and we just had a major electrical problem. One of the knobs would not quite turn off; and ended up blowing off the stove, hitting my husband and shut off power to our entire condo building. Not just our unit, the entire building. This is a known defect on a very similar model that was actually recalled. This is an extremely dangerous safety issue and could have caused an electrical fire and/or a serious injury to my husband. Frankly, we do not have extra money just laying around to purchase another new stove; especially one that is still relatively new. Since this seems to be a known issue with these types of units, I would like to request compensation from GE for the purchase price or at the very least a replacement model. If we have to take a replacement model, I am worried that the same problem will occur again and the outcome could result in a much different outcome. Hopefully GE will compensate us, I can only hope for the best solution.
