I purchased a brand-new 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M4 Pro chip and 48GB RAM memory directly from the NYC Best Buy store on 60 W 23rd Street on July 11. On July 12, I opened the box. The Apple pull-tab seals appeared completely untouched, and I personally unsealed both. After completing the initial macOS setup, I discovered that the MacBook inside only had 24GB of memory. I immediately returned to the same store that day and they verified the following: - The serial number on my receipt matches the serial number printed on the box. - The serial number on the physical MacBook is completely different. - The MacBook inside is a 24GB configuration, not the 48GB configuration I purchased. - Employees said the physical MacBook’s serial number did not appear in the Best Buy system they checked. No exchange or refund was provided. The employees asked me to take the MacBook home and return the next day when the store manager was available. Seems pretty consistent with a prior device swap followed by the box being resealed and returned to inventory. I obviously cannot determine where in the chain that occurred, but this is incredibly frustrating, and Best Buy hasn't been helpful at all thus far.
