I am not certain that we are in the electronic age

I am not certain that we are in the electronic age. I mean, Discover thinks that EVERYTHING must be mailed. Oops! I should say, unless it is a statement - *that* can be electronically sent. If you have a CD, you get a letter telling you that it is up for renewal – and – they send you a booklet telling you what a CD is, how to renew, how to withdraw, etc. If you have a CD, you already know about these things. And after it is renewed, you get another letter telling you it was renewed. Good Grief!! How many letters do you need? It not only adds to our landfill, but it also compromises your identity by giving hackers just enough information to steal your identity or to open accounts in your name and destroy your credit. It is also a waste of money. It costs approximately $4.00 for them to print the letter, fold it, put it in an envelope, and add postage (even pre-paid postage is an expense) and at that, I am probably underestimating the expense.
I added a beneficiary to my accounts, and I got letters for each account. Talk about overkill. It took 6 days for me to get those letters. Since I check my accounts daily, I am aware whether there is anything suspicious or not. In my estimation, 6 days is too long. If I did not check, by the time I got the letter(s), I could be cleaned out. So happy that they care so much that they delay letting me know something might be off with my accounts.
I checked around and found at least one bank that does everything electronically. They send you an email to log into your account to retrieve. If you request them to mail it, it is done for a fee. So many people have computers or smartphones and printers, that if anything you get online and need a physical copy, can be done at home. Plus, it is on the same day, and not in 6 or more days.
I have been calling in with the complaint of getting mail, the representatives are kind and polite and take my complaint, but the upper echelon does not care. They believe that the pony express is alive and well and will get it delivered. Apparently, they do not read the news about some postal persons not wanting to deliver mail and just dump it somewhere. Discover has no idea that I have gotten their mail except for me calling in to complain about it.
I called in to ask why they have a Secure Message Center when they don’t use it for these sorts of letters, and they say that the reason for that center is so people can write in about their accounts and not for letting people get these letters. They have a “Chat/ Messaging” app within their website so why not just use that for the people who have questions? It is not the actual Chat center. You type in your question(s) and they will get back to you when they can. Same principle as they message center.
Since they have been taken over by Capital One, NA, they have gotten worse. There are problems with the website and there is NO ONE you can speak with about them. You can speak with a “Web Specialist” but they can only do troubleshooting and take a message to be passed along. They have gotten so that they no longer care about the “little people” who helped them grow. Do not ask for a supervisor, that will take about 2 days or more for someone to get back with you.
Discover used to be a great credit card and bank. Those days are long gone.
