For about two years we’ve owned an LG window A/C, model LW1216ER—and lately it’s turned into a frustrating, unreliable machine.
When the unit is completely powered off, the front display is dark and there are no indicator lights. Every 10–15 minutes it cycles with a buzz/hum sound for a short period. During those cycles, no air comes out, so it feels less like normal operation and more like the system is stuck in some kind of malfunction.
When we do turn it on, it doesn’t behave as an A/C is supposed to. Instead of regulating to the temperature we select, it pushes the temperature far beyond the set point. For example, setting it to 82°F resulted in the room dropping to about 68°F. When set to 86°F (the highest setting), it still cools down to around 75°F.
We’ve tried the usual troubleshooting steps, but the same issues persist. Based on what an AI assistant suggested, the problem could be related to the control PCB and possibly also the thermistor, but the truth is we’re left without a reliable fix.
On top of everything, it’s also unusually noisy, and we’ve occasionally noticed odd smells, which is especially concerning.
We’re honestly disappointed—this unit has not only failed to do the basic job it was built for, but it also behaves in ways that don’t feel safe or normal.
