Flying from Boston Logan to Beijing and on to Chengdu on Sept 8th. The Boston plane was delayed by 2.5 hours due to mechanical issue. This delay caused me to miss my connecting Hainan flight in Beijing. Hainan said it would arrange the connecting flight the next morning at 7:30am and provide a hotel until then next day. The staff said it would provide a hotel and told me to sit and wait. Other passengers with similar issues also were processed and sent to the hotel for the next hour. After seeing other passergets leaving for the hotel I ask why I was still sitting there waiting. They then said there were no more rooms available and could only compensate 200rmb. This is 1:30am. They offered a ride to some hotel which I had to pay 400rmb and got my 2.5 hours of sleep before coming back to the airport for the new connecting flight.

Issue is other Chinese passengera which arrived at counter after I was processed, where given the hotel room while I was sitting there waiting. There was no order to the processing. I can understand the mechanical delay, but not the unordered processing.


Flying to China on business next month and will need to do a few domestic flights while I am in the country. I booked through Hainan Airlines and the customer service was spectacular for such a large company. Everyone was courteous and friendly. I just wanted to follow up on my original review and say that since I posted it I have not seen any additional complaints online or on Twitter against Hainan.
