We rented a car from the San Fransisco airport and drove up to the Redwood Forest to do some hiking. When we returned the car there was, admittedly, some trail debris on the floor mats. We then received an e-mail that we were being charged $125.00 for cleaning and stating that the car was not returned in the same condition it was in when rented. The charge form indicated the "dirtiness" of the car was "slight" but still justified the $125 charge. The company has not responded to my complaints and I am disputing the charge through my credit card. To me this implies unfair gouging of a customer. Every car needs to be cleaned before renting. The idea that a car is not returned in the same condition it was in when rented suggests that cars are not cleaned, otherwise every rental return would be charged a cleaning fee. But, perhaps that is this company's' price gouging strategy. If Budget does not wave this charge I will never rent a another car from them...or any of these affiliates.
